This project was a concept design proposal for an adaptive reuse hotel near Orchard Road, Singapore. The existing building takes the form of a podium containing offices with a residential tower on top. The client wanted the podium to be converted from offices into a hotel. The interior concept of Shizuku denotes water trickling or fountain.

The site nestled equidistant between two train stations. There is a buffer between the site and these stations, but they are within walking distance.

The site sits at a crossroads of an east-west axis and a north-south axis. The east-west axis comprises vibrant commercial spots and lush parks. The north-west axis comprises residential neighbourhoods and conserved shophouses.

This image highlights how the project aims to retrofit 3F to B3 into a hotel. The first floor is predominantly a common area.

A facade of fins were proposed as most of the hotel windows were facing north and south. This mitigates harsh Sun in these directions. The logic used in generating the façade ensured irregularity, this mimicking a waterfall. This ties the exterior to the interior concept of Shizuku.

The logic employed to generate the fins. 4 types of fins are created by varying depth (50, 100, 150mm) and thickness (20, 40, 60 and 80mm). These 4 types A, B, C, & D were aggregated into a a rhythm as shown above, while maintaining the consistent 200mm between the midpoint of each fin.

The interiors promise a series of built-in furniture clad in wooden laminate. They create harmony where space is a constraint.

The elevated bed platform help create zones without erecting walls. The sleeping zone is separated from the cooking zone through the steps. Different floor treatment between these zones further emphasize their separation.

The stairs and the office area are enmeshed into a singular furniture piece. This optimises space while creating a unique experience. The platform beyond the desk plays three roles - office storage, window ledge and stairway.
